If you’ve lived in Kansas City for more than a week, you know one thing for sure: the weather can be all over the place!

It’s nearly impossible to predict whether we’ll get sunny skies, 100 degree heat, torrential down pour, or a blizzard.

That’s why I recommend locations that give us the flexibility to shoot both indoors and outdoors. No matter what Kansas City decides to throw at us, you’ll still get beautiful photos that feel like you. Here are some of my favorite spots that work in any weather:

Union Station & Crown Center

These two iconic Kansas City spots offer plenty of indoor and outdoor options. Union Station’s grand architecture and natural light are perfect for timeless portraits, while Crown Center adds fun seasonal vibes. In the winter, the Crown Center ice skating rink is open, and the festive lights and décor make for a magical backdrop. And inside The Westin at Crown Center, there’s an indoor waterfall for something truly unique.

Blip Roasters & The West Bottoms

If you want photos with a little edge and personality, Blip is perfect! This motorcyclist café has a wall of helmets, big windows with dreamy light, and a cool vibe that’s hard to beat. Step outside, and the West Bottoms is full of industrial charm, weathered brick, and hidden gems for photos. If you ride motorcycles, this spot is made for you!

The Plaza

The Plaza is a Kansas City classic for engagement photos any time of year. Its Spanish-inspired architecture, fountains, and colorful storefronts create a timeless backdrop, and when the holiday lights go up on Thanksgiving, the entire area transforms into a festive, romantic wonderland. While most of the shooting here happens outdoors, we can always pop into a nearby restaurant or bar for a few warm, intimate shots.

National WWI Museum & Liberty Memorial

The National WWI Museum and Liberty Memorial is a Kansas City landmark that offers the best of both worlds: unique indoor spaces and stunning outdoor views. Inside, the museum allows photography (as long as we’re respectful), and the entrance features a poppy field display beneath clear glass floors, making for a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity. Step outside and the Liberty Memorial provides sweeping views of the Kansas City skyline that are beautiful both during the day and at night.

Final Thoughts

Kansas City’s weather might be unpredictable, but your engagement photos don’t have to be. By choosing locations with both indoor and outdoor options, we can plan ahead without worrying about last-minute changes.

Whether it’s sunshine, snow, or something in between, your session will feel effortless, fun, and true to your love story.
